Tech Talk: Comprehensive Analysis of FLOP Calculations in Large Language Models
Speaker: Dr. Sanjay Basu (Oracle)
Abstract: In this talk, Sanjay will delve into the mathematical principles and methodologies for calculating floating-point operations (FLOPs) in training large language models (LLMs). The discussion breaks down key architectural components, including multi-head self-attention, feed-forward networks, residual connections, and layer normalization, to provide a detailed understanding of their computational demands. The analysis extends to forward and backward pass complexities, memory requirements, and emerging model optimizations, including sparse attention and Mixture of Experts (MoE). Additionally, practical considerations—such as gradient checkpointing, distributed training strategies, and mixed-precision techniques—will be highlighted to bridge the gap between theoretical FLOP estimations and their practical implications. This session is invaluable for AI researchers and practitioners aiming to optimize LLMs for computational efficiency and scalability.
Tech Talk: Arm for GitHub Copilot extension
Speaker: Zach Lasiuk (Arm)
Abstract: Curious about how Arm developed their GitHub Copilot extension? This talk will guide you through the process, showcasing the GitHub Copilot extension and how it can help developers migrate and optimize their server applications across various Arm-based offerings in Oracle (also in other cloud providers like AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and more). You'll learn how we built this straightforward yet effective method to enhance developers experience reducing cloud spend.
Tech Talk: Build AI solutions with Generative AI and Advanced Vector Database
Speaker: Diego Abelar Morales (Oracle)
Abstract: In this talk, Diego will provide a comprehensive introduction to Oracle's Generative AI service, offering both an overview of the platform and a hands-on demonstration of its capabilities. By the end of the presentation, attendees will have a solid understanding of how Oracle’s Generative AI service, coupled with a 23ai vector database, can be utilized to build intelligent, context-sensitive AI-driven applications that enhance business outcomes..
