Tech Talk: Working Toward Responsible AI
Speaker: David Giard (Microsoft)
Abstract: While the benefits of AI are extensive, it is crucial to acknowledge and navigate potential challenges that may pose risks to individuals and society. It is important to act ethically and responsibly when creating and using AI solutions in order to protect those who may be adversely affected. In this session, we will address the challenges inherent in AI and how you can address those challenges.

Tech Talk: DBRX: A New Era of Customizable, Efficient, and Open Source Large Language Models
Speaker: Angelina Leigh (Databricks)
Abstract: Join us for an exciting exploration of DBRX, the groundbreaking AI assistant developed by Databricks. Unveiled in March 2024, DBRX sets a new standard for open source large language models (LLMs) by outperforming established models on industry benchmarks and GPT-3.5. Discover how DBRX's mixture-of-experts architecture makes it highly efficient, enabling organizations to build, train, and serve custom LLMs cost-effectively. Learn about the potential of DBRX to accelerate the trend of replacing proprietary models with open source models, and how it empowers enterprises to create tailored AI solutions while maintaining control over their data and intellectual property. Don't miss this opportunity to delve into the future of AI and its implications for businesses and society.

Tech Talk: Large Multimodal Models: Connecting text and images
Speaker: Dimitrios Tanoglidis (Walgreens)
Abstract: Most machine learning models operate in one data modality - for example, text or images. Although Large Language Models (LLMs) such as chatGPT have dominated the public discussion on the abilities of Generative AI, Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) are emerging as powerful models that are able to work with images and text simultaneously. In this talk I’ll present CLIP, one of the first and most commonly used paradigms for connecting images and text and creating common embedding spaces. Then I’ll discuss how combining CLIP with LLMs (such us CPT-4 and LlaMa) gives birth to LMMs that can perform tasks such as zero-shot mage classification, with some example from the field of Astronomy!
