Tech Talk: GenAI on GCP: The Rise of Transformers and GenAI Technology
Speaker: Gizmo Bentim (Google)
Abstract: Explore how Google is innovating in this field and making it easy for cloud users to utilize and fine-tune Large Language Models, both proprietary and open-source public models.

Tech Talk: …Some Models are Useful
Speaker: Jason Karpeles (PMG)
Abstract: Presentation focuses on the imperative of constructing a custom marketing mix model, critiquing the inadequacy of regression-based and open-source solutions from major tech companies. Advocates for a "local" approach that aligns with the company culture, introducing the concept of Stock and Flow models rooted in system dynamics and differential equations to address customer attrition, a common shortfall in existing models. Highlights the nuances of machine learning optimization, the necessity of parameter search, regularization, and the pitfalls of overfitting. He juxtaposes traditional statistical metrics with advanced techniques like Bayesian methods and bootstrapping with Monte Carlo Simulation for assessing model stability. The presentation culminates with a reflection on Bayesian thinking and probabilistic programming, cautioning against the allure of near-perfect model fits, and invoking George E.P. Boxs principle that while all models are inherently flawed, some are indeed useful.

Tech Talk: RAG vs Fine-Tuning
Speaker: Clement Yu (WhitegloveAI)
Abstract: Introduce two different methods of optimizing large language models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and fine-tuning and also show how they can be combined for maximum efficiency.
