Welcome to our monthly ML meetup in Seattle. You can join us in-person (food&drink, networking and lucky draw) or remotely (on zoom).

Agenda (PST):
* 6:00pm~6:30pm: Checkin and Food/drink (in-person)
* 6:30pm~8:00pm: Tech talks (in-person + virtually)
* 8:00pm~8:30pm: Lucky draw & Networking (in-person)

Tech Talk 1: ML Foundations and Engineering Implications
Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies, especially neural network (NN) computing, have continuously made amazing progresses in the fields of natural language processing, computer vision, content generation, and sciences etc., and have demonstrated super-human performance in many application scenarios. As an emerging engineering discipline, AI/ML is still growing and evolving. In this talk, we will examine some of the fundamental issues of deep learning (DL) and put them into the contexts of AI applications and engineering, so that the AI practitioners can have a better understanding of the pros and cons of ML technologies when applied to real world scenarios.
Speaker: Wei-Min Lu, Managing Partner @ Actus AI Lab

Tech Talk 2: FLAML: A Fast Library for AutoML & Tuning
Abstract: Machine Learning is a powerful and effective tool, but it takes tremendous effort to tune many choices such as hyperparameters to the problem at hand. This tuning process can be both difficult and costly. This talk will introduce an easy-to-use open-source library (https://github.com/microsoft/FLAML) built based on new cost-effective hyperparameter optimization and AutoML technologies from Microsoft Research. Both ML beginners and experts can benefit from this talk. Python or .NET programmers will learn how to use this lightweight library and related products to find accurate machine learning models automatically, efficiently, and economically.
Speaker: Chi Wang, Principal Researcher @ Microsoft Research

Tech Talk 3: Creating Generative Sitcom with Azure and OpenAI
Abstract: The world of generative media is exploding. Pretty soon, we are going to be watching television shows, going to movies, and listening to music entirely generated by machines. Come learn about how Mismatch Media created Nothing, Forever, the world first always-on, interactive television show generated through a combination of cloud services, machine learning techniques, and more. We will do a technical deep dive into the architecture behind Nothing, Forever, the emerging state of generative media, and why Mismatch Media chose Azure as their cloud of choice
Speaker: Skyler Hartle @ Microsoft and Mismatch Media

Venue:
Microsoft Reactor Redmond
3709 157th Ave NE, Redmond, WA
