Abstract:
Airbnb is a leading online marketplace for arranging or offering lodging. We build Delphi, a forecasting platform to provide insights into business trends at Airbnb. This presentation introduces how we conduct Forecasting from a tech perspective, by covering two major components of Delphi.
(1) Data Platform: some innovative solutions to data warehousing and workflow orchestration management in the context of Forecasting and ML;
(2) Compute Engine: we conduct a hybrid forecasting approach of interpolation and extrapolation. ML models provide raw data as the baseline (interpolation), while data scientists create business hypotheses by modifying trends (extrapolation). It’s enabled by Compute Engine, the brain of Delphi.
